It’s that time of year and the Event Fuel team are getting stuck into the festivities in all of their glorious shapes and forms. We’ve been creating winter wonderlands, hosting splendid themed parties and annual get togethers, building Christmas markets, hosting charity sleepouts for the masses and so much more. In the midst of Christmas madness, Event Fuel are recapping on 2019 and reminiscing on the many moments for which we can #BeProud of this year
While it’s not the most favourable time of year for cycling, it’s definitely the most wonderful time for giving and we are so very proud of Tour de Picnic this year for its outstanding charity achievements. In 2019, our annual charity cycle and run to Electric Picnic festival reached record breaking participation and with that, fundraising for the event also skyrocketed from previous years.
For those of you unfamiliar with the event, Tour de Picnic participants choose to run 17KM or cycle 80KM to Electric Picnic, raising a minimum of €450 for charity, getting their Electric Picnic ticket as a reward at the finish line. More Info HERE
Money raised by Tour de Picnic’s 1000 champions goes towards 3 charities each year and there are few more worthy causes than the three children’s charities selected for 2019. Reports of how Tour de Picnic funds are being put to great work in the last few weeks have warmed our hearts for the festive season and we wanted to share our Xmas cheer with you.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland provide a home away from home for families whose children are seriously ill and hospitalised at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. Thanks to funds raised by Tour de Picnic 2019, this home away from home will have an amazing new playground! They have just laid the astroturf and they aim to have the whole playground finished early in the new year. This new playground will bring endless joy into the lives of the many children and families who are so well cared for at RMHC.
RMHC will also be using TDP funds to continue their fantastic service, providing accommodation and a caring and supportive environment for the families in their care, allowing them to face the weight of illness together, helping their children in the healing process. The House provides accommodation for 20 families every night who can stay for a few days, several weeks or even months. Tour de Picnic can’t wait to see what 2020 funds will bring to their service.
LauraLynn – Ireland’s Children’s Hospice is the only Children’s Hospice in Ireland providing palliative care and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families providing symptom management, planned short breaks, emergency and end-of-life care, as well as family supports and bereavement care, to children with life-limiting conditions within the context of their family unit.
LauraLynn have put Tour De Picnic 2019 funds into enhancing their amazing service while also developing their LauraLynn at Home service caring for children in the comfort of their own homes. LauraLynn have stated that Tour de Picnic funds have truly helped keep the doors of their hospice open this year. They are planning on making a very special Christmas for all 220 families in their care and the further 65 bereaved families they continue to support. They allow families to be families and not just carers and we are proud to be supporting their incredible work for 2020.
ISPCC Childline is the national listening service for children and young people in Ireland, a confidential service provided via telephone, text and online. Tour de Picnic’s long term support has contributed greatly to ISPCC’s service throughout the years, making sure every child and young person in Ireland always have somewhere to turn. ISPCC Childline is Ireland’s only 24-hour service for children & young people.
Childline answers over 310,000 contacts every year by phone, text and web chat and is open 365 days a year. We are delighted to say that Tour de Picnic will continue to support this cause for 2020, supporting the voices of the younger generation.
While we are feeling proud of Tour de Picnic, we must add that in addition to fundraising achievements, with 1000 participants in 2019, #thecompletenatural Tour de Picnic 2019 took 1000 cars off the road to Electric Picnic. An environmental achievement in itself!
To all those that made #thecompletenatural Tour de Picnic 2019 possible: The 2019 Participants; you are the Champions, Irish Dairy The Complete Natural for your sponsorship, the suppliers for your generous donations, the loyal volunteers and crew – we salute you!
